The History of Sugilite
Named for Dr Ken-ichi Sugi, a Japanese petrologist who discovered the first specimens in 1944 on Iwagi Islet, Japan, Sugilite has since been discovered in Canada, South Africa, Italy, Australia and India.
Sugilite represents the astrological sign of Virgo. Its numerical vibration is 7. Considered to be one of the most significant love stones on the market today and even referred to as “the premier love stone,” a quality specimen can be a hell of a lot harder to get your hands on than a black market copy of the latest Game of Thrones.
Recognising Sugilite
Sugilite is a relatively rare cyclosilicate of the Osumilite group, a potassium sodium lithium iron manganese aluminium silicate mineral.
These prismatic crystals generally range through a spectrum of pinks and purples (often a stunning violet) and normally occur in massive form. Besides pink or purple, Sugilite can also occur in reddish violet, brownish yellow, and colourless forms.
