The History of Barite
The name Barite is derived from the Greek word βαρύς, meaning "heavy." The radiating form, sometimes called Bologna Stone, attained notoriety among alchemists for the phosphorescent specimens found in the 1600s near Bologna, Italy by Vincenzo Cascariolo. Originally thought to be the philosopher’s stone that was believed capable of transmuting base metals into gold, Bologna stone ultimately was shown to be the mineral we know today as Barite.
Barite grows in a variety of different crystal and colour variations and is found in many parts of the world including USA, Canada, Mexico, Brazil, Peru, Morocco, Romania, India and China.
Recognising Barite
Barite or Baryte is a mineral consisting of barium sulfate (BaSO4). Barite is white or colourless, light blue, green, grey, yellowish or reddish brown.
Though it is heavy and dense, Barite is relatively soft, it has a hardness of 3-3.5 on the Mohs hardness scale.
What is Barite used for?
Barite’s energy is dense, yet soft, like a weighted blanket, offering a sense of security and comfort that can help ease anxiety, release fear and let go of what is not serving your spiritual growth faster than a double shot of good whiskey.
